ce poti face in fata unui zid?

a mlastinii a noroiului a caderii a anihilarii

Jazz and Manele
Although music is not my domain of work or study, it represents one of my favourite ways of spending time by myself or with my friends.
I have not listened to many jazz or manele plays till now, so in this domain I will say only what these two kinds of music seem to me.
In Balcani, both are types of trendy music, now , even jazz is said to be borrowed from the new continent. We are balcanians, so we do listen to jazz and manele here in Romania too. When I say „we”, unfortunately, I do not include myself among those who freely listen to „manele” genre, because I simply don,t like it.
If I would have to compare these two kinds of music, I would rather say that there are much more differencies than similarities between them, I mean they sound very different, not even using of some identical instruments could take them one near the other.
But if I think of the social meaning of these two musical categories, I do find some similarities.
Both of them are said to have apearred as a way of protest of the poor, the excluded class, towards the deafness of the other social classes. But, if jazz developped quickly and became a selected music, listened to by higher-class people (well-educated, fashionable men and women), manele remain a low-class music, and here in Romania they caused many private and public debates. In televised emisions, anthropologists, ethnologists, linguistics specialists analised their origin, and their processes of transformation, and the meaning of their large spreadness (on an area larger than that of jazz, I presume). I am not sure that today manele have something in common which that old kind of music composed or adapted by Cantemir many centuries ago. I could only say that their lyrics are composed in a rude, unsofisticated way, which makes them rubbish, not to mention their melody too. Their interprets are rather low-educated men, who exhibe their gold, and their money, and their expensive cars and young women. They have few obsesions in their words, such as the link between money and value, the indefininte enemy, the sentimental relationship with a woman/a man, etc. They often serve to illustrate some parrodies in television productions. Manele have their fans, and many of them are adolescents and youngs, enchanted by the simplicity of verse and the uncomplicated rythm of melody. In a tranzitional time, manele offer some models of identification to these age-groups.
Jazz is also spread in our country, mainly in urban environments, in city and metropolitan subculture. Jazz seem an element of the central-zone subculture, while manele are related more and more to the periferical zone, even though money gives many people posibility to seem much better-situated.
We often tend to speak about things in which we don t have the authority we assume, and we do this by speaking of jazz and manele, too. So...instead of talking about what we don t even know, we could first listen to them, and then we could try to understand them and our emotional reaction. I never went to a concert of manele, I went only to a jazz concert, so this is my entire knowledge about all these. As I said, I never liked manele, and jazz still has white spaces for me.
